Exam widget: Alternate question set for retakes enables task-level feedback

If a user does not pass the exam on the first attempt, the retake could be generated from an alternate question set. This reduces the likelihood of memorizing answers and helps ensure the exam measures broader, real competence.

Using a different question set also enables showing task-level feedback after the first attempt. If the retake does not reuse the same questions, we can safely provide per-question explanations or feedback without giving away answers for the next attempt. This supports learning and helps users identify which topics they need to improve before retaking the exam.

Thanks for the idea! If you would be able add all the questions in the exam and then decide that users are given for example 5 questions randomly there. Those would be picked randomly from all questions per user. 

Would that solve your need? 

Yes, that could work if the questions can be categorized under specific topics or sections. Our requirement is to build the exam from four different modules and include an equal number of questions from each module.

So ideally, the system would randomly select questions within each module, ensuring that the exam always contains the same number of questions per module.

Could the exam be split into 3 different widget, one per module where the questions are then randomly selected? The implementation would be much more tricky if we need to have question categories within one exam widget.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, if the questions are divided across separate widgets, the number of questions in each widget would become too small for our needs, so that solution wouldn’t work well for us.

Would it be possible instead to implement multiple “randomized widgets” with different question sets? Our use case would work better with a larger pool of questions, even if they are distributed across several widgets.

For example, having two or three different widgets with separate question pools, and then allowing us to select or combine them into the same exam, could be a good solution for us.
